Adobe Substance 3D software available on Steam!

When it comes to computer graphics then Adobe is a well known standard. I mean, their Photoshop environment has even become a verb of its own and for good reasons too if you ask me. “To photoshop” an image using the real Photoshop is a sure way to end up with something good, even if this is done using the somewhat limited Elements version. But Adobe doesn’t only provide software for 2D image editing, they also provide software to extend on 3D modelling as well.

Of course the only problem with Adobe software is their dreaded subscription model, also known as SaaS: Software as a Service. In other words you need to pay a monthly or annual fee in order to be allowed to use their software. Which, in my humble opinion, is a piss poor sales model because the only ones who really profit from that is Adobe, not you. It’s totally absurd and something which is in my opinion best avoided.

However, something changed this year… Adobe is now providing 3 of their Substance 3D software environments on Steam, which means that you can now purchase a perpetual license for these. Pay once, use forever. Surface 3D Painter, Designer and Sampler are now up for grabs.

Well, guess what? That’s exactly what I did this week, I grabbed 2 of the Substance products, and I figured I’d share the news together with my experiences with you guys. Because although I may be biased here I also think that this could very well be a must have purchase for you fellow 3D artists out there as well.
